Toenail fungus is an infection that gets through cracks in your nail or cuts in your skin and due to this fungus, our toenail changes its color or gets even thicker, it could even hurt, due to the warm and damp at the toes fungus grows well there.

Different parts of the nail are affected due to different kinds of fungi and some type of yeast when it is left untreated, there is a scope that infection could spread to another toenail, skin, or even fingernails.

Fungal infections could affect any part of the body and they are present generally on the body alongside various bacteria. as fungus gets to grow you can get an infection.

The fungal infection that affects either the fingernails or toenails is known as ONYCHOMYCOSIS which is also called TINEA UNGUIUM. Fungal infections normally develop over time so any immediate difference in the way your nail looks or feels may be too subtle to notice at first.

WHY DOES IT DEVELOP:

A Fungal nail infection occurs from the development of fungi in or on the nail, fungi could develop well in warm or moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate.

The fungi which are the main cause for an athlete’s foot or ringworm are the reason for nail infections too. fungi that are already present in our body can also cause nail infection.

If we are in contact with the person affected with fungus we could also suffer from the fungus and fungal infections cause more fungus as toes than at fingers due to the warm, moist environment present due to confined shoes.

Fungal nail infections can develop at any age, it’s most common in older adults, since the nail ages, it gets brittle and dry. due to the cracks in the nails, it allows fungi into it. other factors such as reduced blood circulation to the feet and a weakened immune system also play a major role in fungal development.
